                              On forming a General Judgment on a Nativity.

The map of the heavens, drawn out for the moment of birth of any individual, is termed the scheme or figure of the heavens, or, in other words, the horoscope. This must be taken, if possible, to with in a few seconds of the exact time of the infant's first breathing the atmospheric air, which causes it generally to utter a cry. The time, by a good watch, when that first cry is heard, is that for which the horoscope must be drawn out. But as births are rarely noticed with exactness, and as watches are not often quite correct, we shall eventually give rules for correcting the estimated time and calculating the true moment of birth, whenever the birth has been observed, and is certainly known to within a few minutes.
 

     Sobre la formación de un Juicio General sobre una Natividad. El mapa de los cielos, dibujado para el momento del nacimiento de cualquier individuo, se denomina el esquema o figura del cielo, o, en otras palabras, el horóscopo. Esto debe tomarse, si es posible, dentro de unos pocos segundos de la hora exacta cuando el bebé respira por primera vez el aire atmosférico, lo que hace que generalmente es lanzar un grito. El tiempo, por un buen reloj, cuando  ese primer grito que se escucha, es para lo cual el horoscopo debe formarse. Pero como los nacimientos rara vez se anotan con exactitud,y como los relojes a menudo no son del todo correctos, eventualmente daremos reglas para corregir el tiempo estimado y calcular el verdadero momento del nacimiento, siempre que el nacimiento haya sido observado, y sea conocido con certeza en pocos minutos.

In Vol. I of this work, p. 43, we have given rules for taking a map of the heavens ; but we shall farther exemplify those rules now by shewing how to erect the scheme of birth, or horoscope, for the Prince of Wales.

The birth of the Prince took place, as given by the official bulletin, at 10h 48m, A.M., on the 9th November, 1841, in London. I first take the sidereal time* (or right ascension on the meridian) for the previous mean noon. I then add thereto the amount of mean time that has elapsed since ; and as mean time differs from sidereal time ten seconds in the hour, I farther add the correction for 22h 48m, which elapsed from the previous noon, at that rate. The result gives the right ascension, in time, on the midheaven, at the time the Prince is said to have been born.

     El nacimiento del Príncipe tuvo lugar, según informa el boletín oficial, a las 10h 48m de la mañana del 9-11-1841 en Londres. En primer lugar tomo la hora sideral* (o Ascensión Recta del Meridiano) del medio día anterior. Despues le agrego el tiempo medio que ha transcurrido desde entonces; y como el Tiempo Medio difiere del tiempo sideral 10s por hora, agrego además esa corrección por 22h 48m, que transcurrieron desde el mediodía anterior, a ese tiempo. El resultado da la Ascensión Recta, en horas, del Mc, en el momento en que se dice que el Príncipe nacio.

correccion 10s / hora = 10x22,8 = 228 s = 3,8 m = 3m 48 s

This, multiplied by 15, gives the right ascension (in arc) 210º 27'. For this we might now erect the figure ; but to avoid giving two cuts, I shall deduct from this right ascension 2° 27', and give the figure for 10h 38m 12s, am, the right ascension of which is 208°, which appears, from the rectification, to have been the  time when the Prince was really born, in an astrological sense.

     Esto, multiplicado por 15, da la Ascensión Recta (en arco) 210º 27'. Con esto ahora podríamos erigir la Carta Astral; pero para evitar errores, deduciré de la Ascen.Recta 2° 27', y tendremos una AscenRecta de 208º que corresponde a la hora de 10h 38m 12s, am, que es la que aparece en la rectificación por ser el momento en que nació realmente el Príncipe, en un sentido astrológico.
